Description

This is a group of three buildings, numbers 5, 7, and 9 Market Street, dating from the 18th century and altered in the early to mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The buildings are constructed of brick with plain tiled roofs and a brick ridge stack. They are two storeys and have an attic with dormers, featuring a dentilled eaves cornice.

Numbers 5 and 7 have three bays to the front, with three four-pane sash windows on the first floor, each with a cambered head. There are also three gabled dormers with two-light casement windows. The ground floor is occupied by a pair of shop fronts with a continuous cornice and plain pilasters. These shops have 20th-century windows and four-panelled doors with transom lights. A large external chimney is present, along with a lean-to outshut with a catslide roof at the rear.

Number 9 has two first-floor windows with four panes and cambered heads. It has a simply detailed 19th-century shop front on the ground floor, featuring large two-light windows flanking a glazed 20th-century door. A flat-roofed dormer with a two-light casement window is located at the rear.

The rear elevation of the three buildings is likely from the early 18th century, incorporating sandstone rubble and handmade brick walling.
