Description

Dene House is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, with later alterations and additions. The brick facade has been refaced with painted pebbledash. The steeply pitched roof is covered in old tiles, with stone-coped gables and brick end and cross-axial stacks, while a shallower slate roof extends to the right. The house has a 3-unit plan with a 2-unit extension to the right.

The exterior is two storeys plus an attic, with a 5-window range plus a 2-storey, 2-window section to the right. Pilaster strips are present at the ends and one to the right of centre, topped by a dentilled brick cornice. The entrance, to the right of centre, features a leaded overlight above paired fielded panel doors, set within an early 20th-century ironstone porch with an ogival arch and a glazed gablet with a ball finial. Flanking windows are recessed and cross-mullioned, with leaded glazing, and similar transomed lights to the canted ends.

The ground floor has three windows with leaded cross-casements, two of which have been renewed. The first floor mirrors this with similar windows; some casements have decorative catches. Four gabled roof dormers contain 2-light leaded casements, and there is a skylight to the left end.

The right-hand extension has a dentilled brick cornice and a brick end stack, with a bow window on the ground floor featuring pilasters and an entablature above small-paned glazing. The first floor of this section has two windows with leaded cross-casements. The interior was not inspected.

Plain iron area railings are located to left of the porch, with a gate and urn finials to the main railings.
