Description

The Old Post Office House is a house that was part of the former post office, built in the 17th century with an addition from 1911. It is constructed of coursed dressed lias limestone with ashlar dressings, and some brick on the return. The roof is gabled with old tiles, featuring brick stacks at both ends and two additional stacks along the rear ridge.

The building has two storeys plus an attic and features a three-plus-two window arrangement. The centre of the facade slopes inward to a forward break at the left end. The entrance, located to the left of centre, has a doorcase with angle panels and a cornice above a six-fielded-panel door.

On the ground floor, there are two recessed-chamfered windows with labels, which have been replaced with three-light leaded casements that originally had mullions. The first floor showcases similar three-light mullioned windows. The left end of the building has a window on each floor, featuring a three-over-six sash in a flush wood frame. The attic contains three gabled dormers with two-light leaded casements, and some windows are fitted with wrought-iron casement fasteners. The right end of the house has quoins and cornices on both floors.

To the right, there is a Tudor-headed entrance with continuous moulding and a panel above that bears partly effaced letters reading "KINETON POST OFFICE." This entrance features paired two-fielded-panel doors. To the left of this entrance, there are two similar Tudor-headed windows with raking sills and fixed glazing. The first floor has a pair of two-light recessed-chamfered mullioned windows with raking sills and a continuous label mould.

The brick return has a half-hipped gable and a single-storey wing that includes a two-light single-chamfered mullioned window with a label mould. The rebuilt return features a small 20th-century window and a half-hipped gable. The interior has not been inspected.
