Description

Sumach Cottage is a cottage, dated 1763. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone with quoins on the left side, and has a thatched roof with stone end stacks. The cottage follows a two-unit plan, with a two-storey, two-window front. The windows are casements with two and three lights, featuring stone flat arches on the ground floor. The original doorway, with a stone flat arch in the centre, has been blocked; a 20th-century door is now located within a one-storey stone range to the right. An offset buttress is situated to the right of the main range. A datestone in the centre of the first floor bears the inscription "T/IM/1763" in bas-relief, with a moulded hood. A 20th-century one-storey stone extension has been added to the left. The interior was not inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
