Description
Cavalier Cottage is a cottage dated 1653, constructed from coursed squared limestone banded with ironstone, featuring a thatched roof with brick ridge and end stacks on stone bases. The building is a single storey with an attic and has a two-window range, following a two-unit plan.
On the ground floor, there is a small square window with a stone sill, jambs, and lintel at the center, flanked by two-light casements that have timber lintels. Slightly left of center on the first floor, there is a datestone inscribed with "1653" and "C/11" in a trefoil ribbon. To the left, there is a blocked eyebrow dormer, and to the right, a two-light casement with a timber lintel in an eyebrow dormer. The left side elevation features two two-light stone-framed windows on both the ground and first floors, with the stone mullion preserved only in the first-floor left window; the others have 20th-century timber frames. The entrance is located at the rear, and there are 20th-century extensions to the rear and right side.
Inside, the cottage has a moulded die-stop spine beam and two open fireplaces, one of which has a chamfered bressumer.
