Description
Leys House is a 17th-century house located in Stowe Nine Churches. It features coursed limestone and ironstone rubble construction with a thatch roof, complemented by brick ridge and end stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys and an attic.
The entrance is marked by a 20th-century plank door situated to the right of the centre, accompanied by a 2-light leaded casement window to the right and a 3-light leaded casement window to the left. There is also a 2-light 19th-century window at the left end, with timber lintels above the door and ground floor windows. On the first floor, there is a 3-light leaded casement window featuring some crown glass. The house displays quoins and has a stone-coped gable with kneelers on the right, while the left gable is hipped. Additionally, the left side elevation includes a 4-light leaded casement window on the first floor and a 2-light leaded casement roof dormer. It is said that Leys House was a coaching inn and is believed to date from 1623.
