Description
This is a mid-18th century house located on Crockwell Road, originally known as Crockle Street, in Long Compton. The building is constructed of fine squared, coursed limestone with quoins, and has a coped gable on its right side. The roof is tiled, with renewed stone end stacks.
The house has a three-unit plan, two storeys plus an attic, and a three-window front. The upper windows are 18th century two-light casements, while the ground floor windows are 20th century two-light casements, all with stone flat arches. A central 19th century plank door is also topped by a stone flat arch. Two 20th century gabled dormers are visible in the roof. A single-story stone lean-to has been added to the rear.
Attached to the left is an 18th century cottage, now used as a garage, built of squared coursed limestone and with a thatched roof. It has two storeys and a one-window front featuring 19th century three-light casements with wood lintels. A 19th century plank door with strap hinges and a wood lintel sits on the right side. The interior of both buildings was not inspected but is likely to be of interest.
