Description
Orchard Cottage and the adjoining barn date from the 17th century and have been significantly altered and extended in the mid to late 20th century. The cottage is timber-framed with brick infill and stone, though it has mostly been refaced in colour-washed brick. It features an old plain-tile roof and a stone external stack on the right end. The building has a two-unit layout extended to an L-plan, with a 20th-century wing at the rear. It has one storey and an attic, with a three-window range. The main front facing the garden includes 20th-century glazed doors and a porch, along with modern fenestration that features leaded 2- and 3-light casements, a canted bay window on the right, a 20th-century half-dormer on the left, and two hipped dormers.
The barn, which is mostly constructed of stone, is from the 17th or 18th century and has double doors with a window above. The left side of the barn is partly brick and includes a timber-framed gable with brick infill. The rear, facing the road, has a 20th-century wing with a panelled door and hood, along with irregular fenestration. There is a low rubble and whitewashed brick range across the right side of the barn that has a catslide roof. The interior of the cottage is noted for having some exposed framing.
