Description
The structure consists of a bridge, cartshed, trough, pump, and outer retaining wall located on the west side of the moat at Whitacre Hall. It dates from the 19th century and earlier. The main materials used are coursed sandstone rubble, while the bridge is constructed from coursed and dressed sandstone blocks. The bridge spans the western arm of the moat and features a single segmental arch with a chamfered edge and raised key, along with a plain parapet on the south side. The north side has a high rubble wall built up.
The moat retaining wall serves as the rear wall of the single-storey cartshed, which faces west. This cartshed has been converted into stables, with its openings blocked by brick. There are seven stable doors present. On the right-hand gable end, there are two single-light windows with chamfered surrounds, which may date back to the medieval period. Additionally, at this end, there is an attached stone horse trough and a cast iron pump with a fluted head.
