Description

Church House is a house dating from around 1600, which was restored in the late 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure that has been partly rebuilt in brick and painted to look like timber-framing. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has crested ridge tiles, along with two brick ridge stacks. The building has an H-plan layout, consisting of a single-bay hall range that runs east-west and faces south, with a cross-wing at each end.

The house is two storeys high and has four tiers of square panels up to the eaves level, supported by straight braces and ogee-moulded bressumers on the first floor. The windows are arranged in a 1:2:1 pattern and are 19th-century casements. The gabled wings on both sides have fretted barge boards and apex finials. Inside, the roof trusses feature tie beams with brattished soffits made of ogee-moulded billets and V-struts above the collars.

The central entrance is a plank door with a 4-centred arch, located within a 19th-century gabled porch that also has a 4-centred entrance arch, a barley sugar twist balustrade, fretted barge boards, and an apex finial. The left return of the left wing displays irregular framing, including patches of close studding on the ground floor and small square panels on the first floor, with a curved brace in the left bay. The interior includes chamfered and stopped ceiling beams.
