Description
Bakehouse Cottages, also known as Oak Cottage, are a pair of cottages from the 17th century that have been divided into three dwellings. They feature a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill panels, and parts have been rebuilt in brick, which is painted to resemble timber framing. The cottages have a plain-tile roof, with a central brick stack and an integral brick end stack on the left, while the right side has a sandstone external end stack with a brick shaft. The building is arranged in a four-cell range, aligned east-west and facing south, and stands two storeys high. It has three tiers of square panels and straight braces, with slightly irregular window placements. There are four ground floor windows with segmental heads and five first floor windows, featuring 19th and 20th century casements. Additionally, there are three plank doors set within segmental-headed doorways. The right gable end reveals an exposed queen strut roof truss that supports two pairs of purlins. Inside, the cottages have chamfered and stopped ceiling beams.
