Description
The Homestead is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid to late 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure that is covered with colourwashed pebble dash from the 20th century. The roof is finished with plain tiles from the late 20th century, and there are brick stacks at the ridge and right end.
To the left, there is an attached former outbuilding that has been incorporated into the house; this structure is partly timber-framed with brick infill and partly built of brick, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. The original layout was a two-unit plan. The cottage is one storey with an attic and has a two-window range.
On the left side, there is a 20th-century studded door flanked by small lead-latticed windows. The front features two older three-light windows with glazing bars, which have painted rendered lintels with keyblocks. The mid to late 20th-century dormers include three-light casements.
To the right, there is a small one-storey range with a 20th-century casement window on the return side. The left range is also one storey and includes stable doors and two plant doors, with a late 20th-century three-light casement on the right. The left return side displays a timber-framed gable, while the rear of the building is irregular in shape.
Inside, the cottage retains exposed framing, and there is an open fireplace with a rough bressumer. The joists are stop-chamfered, and the room to the left features a flagged floor. The roof structure includes queen struts.
