Description
The Bird in Hand Public House is a public house that dates from the 17th and 18th centuries, with later alterations from the 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with whitewashed brick infill, although the front has been almost entirely rebuilt in whitewashed brick. The building has a thatched roof with gable parapets and whitewashed brick end stacks, as well as two ridge stacks. It has a four-unit plan, is one storey high with an attic, and has a four-window range.
There are late 19th or early 20th century double-leaf doors located between the third and fourth bays. To the left, there is a large six-light bay window with a flat roof that extends to form a porch. The first bay features a five-light casement window with a painted wood lintel, while the second bay has a single light and a three-light casement, also with a painted wood lintel. The fourth bay contains a three-light casement window with a brick segmental arch. All the casements have glazing bars. The eyebrow dormers have alternating two- and three-light casements, mostly cross-glazed. The rear of the building retains some exposed framing.
Inside, there are some chamfered beams.
