Description
Brant is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill on a gritstone plinth, and a gritstone addition, topped with a thatch roof. The original two-cell plan has been extended by what appears to be a mid-20th century addition on the left. The cottage has one storey and an attic, with a semi-basement on the left. The framing consists of square panels, with three panels from the cill to the wall-plate, and short straight tension braces. There is a cambered tie beam at the right gable end. A prominent four-light 20th-century raking eaves dormer is located to the left of the 17th-century part, with a 20th-century casement window to the right of a 20th-century door. The 20th-century addition has a casement window in the center and a raking eaves dormer. There is an integral brick end stack on the right and a ridge stack to the left of center. The single-storey 20th-century additions to the rear are not of special architectural interest.
