Description

The Crow's Nest is a cottage that likely dates back to the 17th century. It was encased in stone in the late 18th century and extended in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from local gritstone rubble, which partly conceals a timber frame, and it has a plain tile roof. The original layout consists of two cells with an integral stack on the left, and it has been extended to the right in gritstone during the late 20th century. The cottage is one storey high with an attic and features irregular window arrangements. There are three modern three-light casement windows, two of which are in the original part of the building—one has a mid-19th century segmental brick head and the other has a 20th-century segmental brick head. The extension also has a window with a segmental head, along with three late 20th-century gabled eaves dormers. A boarded door is located at the far left, and there are integral end stacks. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have timber-framed cross walls, including one that runs along the axis of the building with an ogee-arched doorway, and a chamfered cross beam in the left ground-floor room.
