Description

Wood Bank is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a pebbledashed timber frame set on a rendered plinth and has a machine tile roof. The building has a two-cell end baffle-entry plan, with a two-storey gabled range added to the left in the early 20th century. It is one storey with an attic.

The timber framing is visible beneath the pebbledash, consisting of square panels with three sections from the cill to the wall-plate, supported by long straight tension braces. On the ground floor, there are two casement windows; the left window is an early 20th-century addition, while the right is a smaller 19th-century window. Above the left window, there is a 20th-century gabled dormer in the roof slope. The entrance is to the left, featuring a four-panel door (with the top panels now glazed) under a 20th-century lean-to hood that extends from the roof slope. A red brick ridge stack, which was formerly part of the gable end, has been rebuilt in the early 20th century. The right gable end displays projecting double-purlin ends.

Inside, the timber frame remains largely intact behind the plaster, including in the cross-walls. The left ground-floor room has a chamfered cross beam and joists.

The 20th-century gabled addition to the left is not considered to have special architectural interest.
