Description

The stone building immediately west of the lock-up is likely from the late 18th century or early 19th century and may have been associated with the adjacent lock-up. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a slate roof with gabled ends and a plain projecting stone eaves course. The building has a deep rectangular single-cell plan with a doorway on the north side, and the south wall may have been intended to extend eastwards. There is a small doorway inserted in the rear (east) wall, along with a later outshut at the back.

The exterior is two storeys high, although it was originally one storey; a ground floor window at the front was added later. The west front has one window, with a large later ground floor window and a smaller window above it under the eaves. On the north side, there is a doorway to the right of centre with a later panelled door and a small window above to the left. The rear (east) side features a small later doorway to the left and the later outshut. All windows and doorways have plain openings with later frames inserted. In the south gable, there is a large slit that appears to have a brick flue built into it. The southeast corner shows bonding for a possible continuation of the south wall eastwards.

Inside, the building has exposed ashlar walls and consists of one large room that is open to the roof. The roof is unceiled and features large purlins, common rafters, and a ridge-board. The front part of the interior has an inserted floor supported on reused stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
