Description
No 1A on Shrewsbury Street is a house that was later used as a shop and is now disused. It dates from the early 19th century and has had some later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of red brick and features a concrete tile roof with integral end stacks. It stands two storeys high and has a dentilled eaves cornice. The front has three windows, which are late 19th-century casements with early 19th-century gauged heads and painted keystones, although the upper centre window is blind. There is a central entrance with a four-panel door and a rectangular overlight, both under a gauged head with a keystone. This entrance is flanked by mid-19th-century bracketed shop fronts that replaced the original windows. The building is included for its group value.
