Description
This is an early 17th-century cottage located on the west side of Moreton Street, in the civil parish of Prees. It has undergone later additions and alterations. The building is timber framed with painted brick infill and a reed thatched roof. It is originally of three framed bays, with a gable-lit attic. The timber framing consists of square panels, two running from the cill to the wall-plate, with painted decoration to the front infill. Larger square panels are present with long, curving tension braces to the right gable end and back wall. The left gable end has been partly rebuilt in brick and painted in a black and white pattern to imitate timber framing. The roof has projecting single-purlin ends with V-struts from the collar to the right gable end. Mid-19th century casement windows are visible, one to the left and two to the right of a 19th-century boarded door located to the left of centre. A 20th-century brick ridge stack is centrally located, and an internal end stack to the left has been partly rebuilt in 20th-century red brick. The interior was not accessible for inspection during a resurvey in January 1986, but is likely to be of interest. The building is also known as Edenhurst.
