Description

The Old Hall is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 17th century and was partly remodeled around 1762, with later additions and alterations. The building features a timber frame, which is now rendered on the left gable end and replaced by red brick on the front. It has plain and machine tile roofs and is designed in an L-shape, with a short range to the rear on the left and a lean-to in the angle.

The structure is two storeys high and has a former gable-lit attic, characterized by a floor band and a dentilled eaves cornice on the front. The front has two windows, which are three-light late 19th-century casements with segmental heads. The entrance is located in the left gable end and consists of a four-panel door with a rectangular barred overlight, set in a bracketed open-pedimented doorcase. Above the door is a contemporary round-headed window.

A prominent red brick stack is situated immediately in front of the ridge to the right of the center, featuring recessed panels and a corbelled top. This stack is said to have formerly displayed the initials "TB" and the date "1762". The framing is exposed on the right gable end and the back wall, showing close-set vertical posts with long straight tension braces, V-struts from the collar, and double-purlin ends. The positions of infilled mullion windows are visible above the tie beam and on the back wall. The interior could not be inspected at the time of the resurvey in January 1986, but it is noted to have been much altered on the ground floor.
