Description
Hazel Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill and rebuilding on a rendered plinth, topped with a machine tile roof. The cottage has a three-unit baffle-entry plan and is one storey high with an attic. The framing includes vertical posts at the front with later light horizontal members, while some original cross members are visible at the left gable end and at the rear on the left. The left end truss has queen struts with V-struts from the collar.
On the ground floor, there are 19th-century casements, with one to the left and three to the right of a plank door that is sheltered by a 20th-century gabled hood located to the left of centre. To the right of the door, three casements feature leaded lights, while those to the left and right are segmental-headed. Above the centre window, there is a gabled eaves dormer with a leaded casement. A red brick ridge stack is positioned directly above the entrance, and there is an integral end stack to the right. Additionally, a 19th-century painted brick lean-to on the left gable end includes a two-light cast-iron latticed casement.
