Description
Orchard Cottage is a house located in Birtley Green, dating from the mid-17th century with extensions added to the front in 1890. The rear of the house is timber framed with whitewashed brick infill, while the front features brown brick with roughcast gables. It has a plain tiled roof with a tile-hung gable at the rear. The building stands two storeys high and has a corbelled stack at the center. The rear consists of three framed bays, and two gabled bays were added to the front, creating a symmetrical facade. Each gable has one three-light casement window with a cambered head on both floors. There are cambered head doors on the left and right, each sheltered by pentice porches. The first floor at the rear has three casement windows, and the ground floor has two windows. A pentice porch is located at the center. Inside, there are substantial amounts of exposed framing, and the roof timbers remain intact.
