Description

Orchard Cottage and Valentine are a pair of houses built in the late 18th century (Valentine) and early 19th century (Orchard), with a later extension set back to the south. They are constructed of flint with brick dressings, and have a tile roof. Valentine has three windows, with the centre window blank, while Orchard has two. Features include brick dentil eaves, narrow horizontal flint panels, brick quoins and verticals, and cambered ground floor openings, all set on a plinth. The windows are casements; Valentine’s have two bays, one splayed and the other rectangular, both with concave lead roofs. Valentine’s front door is plain, with a 6-panelled door (the upper two panels glazed), sheltered by a moulded canopy. Orchard has a wide 19th-century tiled canopy supported by ornamental brackets.
