Description
Grassyard House is a former farmhouse dating from the early to mid-18th century, with later additions to the rear and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of colourwashed, rendered brick, featuring a brick string course and a sandstone plinth. It has an old plain-tile hipped roof, with 19th-century brick ridges and internal stacks at the rear. The house has a two-unit plan extended to double-depth, standing two storeys high with an attic and a three-window range. The symmetrical front includes a late 20th-century door, with 19th and 20th-century three-light and central two-light casements that have horizontal glazing bars and top lights. There are two dormers with similar two-light casements. The left side of the building has a lower section beneath the roof slope, and the string course does not extend the full length of this side. It features two-light casements similar to those on the front, with additional smaller casements above on the left side. The rear additions have a catslide roof. Inside, the house has chamfered beams, and the room on the left includes an open fireplace that may have been altered. The attic contains an old ledged door. Grassyard House is included for its group value.
