Description
The Hurley and Wood End War Memorial is made of granite and features an obelisk on top of a plinth, which is set upon a square base with three steps. The memorial stands approximately 2.5 meters high.
The front of the obelisk has an inscription in Gothic-style carved and black-painted letters that reads: "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." The front face of the plinth honors the memory of the men from Hurley and Wood End who fell in the Great War, with the inscription: "TO THE REVERED AND UNDYING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HURLEY AND WOOD END WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919."
On the other sides of the plinth, there are 41 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War. The back face of the plinth lists the years 1939 – 1945, followed by the names of eight men who died in the Second World War.
