Description
The Old Farmhouse at Charity Farm is a Grade II listed building that is now abandoned. It dates from the late 17th century and the 19th century. The structure is built from coursed rubble sandstone and blue brick, with red brick patching and quoins. It features steeply pitched plain-tile roofs, with brick stacks at the central ridge and ends. The farmhouse has a T-plan with additional sections and stands two storeys high with an attic, comprising three bays.
The south elevation includes a lean-to porch at the angle, featuring a plank door and a segmental-arched one-light window. Throughout the building, there are two-light casements. The cross wing to the right has a cellar window and casements with segmental arches, while the main range has a window to the left. There is a one-storey eastern range with a window that has a timber lintel. The south elevation displays a two-window range, and the cross wing on the left has a 20th-century brick one-storey lean-to, which is not of special architectural interest. The first-floor wood and attic windows are 20th-century metal casements. The main range has wood casements and a one-light ground-floor window. The openings feature 19th-century blue brick sills and segmental arches. Inside, there are chamfered beams and evidence of an inglenook fireplace.
