Description
Daniels Farmhouse is a building likely dating from the mid- to later 17th century, with an expansion in the 18th century. It was recently derelict but is now undergoing renovation as a house. The farmhouse is constructed of sandstone rubble with quoins; additions are of rendered brick. The roof is covered with blue slates, replacing original stone slates, and features a rebuilt stone chimney on the left gable. The building follows a T-plan, consisting of a two-unit gable-end baffle-entry house with a later rear wing. Facing away from the road, the front elevation has cavetto-moulded mullion windows on both floors. On the ground floor, these include a two-light window (a firewindow), a seven-light window under a single hoodmould, and a five-light window with a hoodmould; the first floor has two five-light windows. The left gable wall has a former doorway that has been altered into a window, while the right gable has a similar five-light window at the first floor and a three-light attic window. The rear elevation displays remnants of similar windows, largely concealed by the added wing, which is of less architectural significance. Inside, a large inglenook fireplace is present, featuring a stone heck and an ovolo-moulded bressumer. Each bay contains a large lateral beam with a stopped ½-round moulding, supported by moulded stone corbels. Remains of former mullioned windows on both floors of the rear wall are now mostly concealed.
