Description
The Roman Catholic School, now serving as a parish centre and nursery school, was built in 1836, as indicated on the parapet. It features dressed sandstone in watershot coursing and slate roofs, designed in an H-plan layout. The building is symmetrical, consisting of a 3-bay, 2-storey main section with single-storey crosswings that originally housed the schoolrooms.
In a simple classical style, it includes a plinth, bands, a moulded cornice, a low parapet, and gable end stacks. The wings have corner pilaster strips and pedimented gables. The central doorway of the main house, which is now mostly blocked, has a moulded architrave and cornice. The ground floor has two windows, and each wing features a single window, all set in recesses that rise from the plinth. These windows are vertical rectangular shapes with altered glazing.
The centre of the pediment on the main house is inscribed with "MDCCCXXXVI," while the pediments of the wings display stone tablets labeled "GIRLS" and "BOYS." Each wing extends three bays in length, with the left wing having a short flat-roofed extension that runs the full length of the return wall.
