Description
The Lodge is a former lodge building, likely from the 18th century. It is constructed from regularly coursed and rubble sandstone, featuring a plinth and a splay string course. The flat roofs are concealed behind coped parapets, with rendered stacks located at the rear. The building has an irregular plan and is designed in a style reminiscent of the 16th century.
The main front of the lodge, which faces the road at a right angle, includes a deep Tudor-arched doorway with a studded door that has strap hinges, positioned in the left corner. There are recessed chamfered mullioned windows, with one light on the first floor. A polygonal turret at the right angle rises above the parapet and contains slit windows. The right range features a cross window with remnants of a hood mould on the ground floor, while the first floor is blank but displays a heraldic device in relief.
On the left return side facing the road, there is a three-light window with a transom on the ground floor, and a late 20th-century two-light casement has been inserted into the old opening above. A lean-to range on the left includes a one-light window and a stepped screen wall, with a plain-tile roof behind it. Inside, the lodge has a chamfered beam and an open fireplace.
