Description
Atherstone House is a late 17th-century house that has undergone some alterations and possible partial rebuilding in the 19th century. It features irregular bond brickwork with sandstone plinths, alternating quoins, and a string course. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has half-hipped gables supported by brick corbels. A brick panelled ridge stack has two panels on the front and one on the sides, adorned with a dog-tooth string course.
The house has a two-unit lobby entry plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and has a four-window range. The third bay includes a flush six-panelled door set within a sandstone bolection-moulded doorcase, which features a pulvinated frieze and cornice. The ground floor is fitted with moulded stone cross windows, while the first floor has 20th-century two-light windows. The quoins on the right side are partly rendered. There is a small, low one-storey range on the right, and the left return side has a two-window range.
Inside, the house contains winder stairs. The room on the right features an open fireplace with a fire window and a chartered bressumer, along with a stepped-stop broad-chamfered ceiling beam. The room on the left has a ceiling beam as well.
