Description

The premises of J.M. Meadows Newsagent is a house that includes a shop, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of red brick with a clay tile roof and features brick integral end stacks. The building stands two storeys high with a gable-lit attic, and it has a dentilled eaves course. There are two windows on the upper floor, which are glazing bar sashes that are near flush framed, with shaped lintels and raised keys. The ground floor window to the right is a four-pane sash with horns. To the left, there is a 20th-century shop front that includes a glazed door flanked by plate glass windows, accessed by a short flight of steps. The building holds an important position opposite the Butter Cross.
