Description
This is a 19th-century milepost located in Blount's Green, Uttoxeter. It is made of hollow cast iron and has a triangular shape with a sloping top. The milepost is painted white, featuring raised black lettering and a black painted base. The base includes the founder's name, "CHARLES LATHE AND Co./TIPTON." The inscriptions on the milepost indicate distances to various locations: on the left, it reads "ABBOT'S BROMLEY 6, WESTON 8 ¼, HANDSACRE 12, STAFFORD 13, LICHFIELD 17," and on the right, "UTTOXETER 1." The top of the milepost also states "UTTOXETER." This milepost is well-preserved in its original location and is part of a group of listed mileposts that mark routes in East Staffordshire, highlighting the significance of road transport in the 19th century. As a good example of a milepost in situ, it is worthy of listing.
