Description
Milepost located on Watery Lane, dating from the 19th century. It is made of hollow cast iron and has a triangular shape with a sloping top. The milepost is painted white with raised black lettering. The inscriptions read: on the left side "WESTON 6 ¼ STAFFORD 11," on the right side "UTTOXETER 3," and on the top "UTTOXETER." This milepost is well-preserved in its original location and is part of a group of similar structures, many of which are listed, that mark routes in East Staffordshire. Mileposts like this one highlight the growing significance of road transport for people and goods in the 19th century, making it a worthy example for listing.
