Description

An 18th-century water mill and mill house, situated on the north side of the A518 in the rural parish of Utoxeter. The building comprises a house aligned east-west with a projecting north-south wing to the south, and an attached mill to the west also aligned east-west and featuring a small north-south projecting wing. The house, to the right, is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings, and has a plain tile roof with coped verges and brick integral end stacks. It is two storeys high with a 2:2 window arrangement. The projecting gabled wing to the right has casement windows, while the main house features two-light, flat-faced mullioned windows with casements. The mill, to the left, is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic, and has a 2-storey gabled wing to its left. The mill has casement windows, with those on the first floor having segmental heads. Segmental-headed doors are located on the right side of the mill. The west gable displays a cast iron mill wheel and a round-headed attic window with iron glazing bars and a raised keystone. The mill interior retains its original machinery and roof trusses, characterized by curved principals and king posts.
