Description
These are a pair of late 18th-century buildings on the south side of Balance Street. The original section, dating to around 1756, is constructed of red brick and stands two storeys and an attic high. It features three sash windows with single glazing bars, each adorned with later cast iron window baskets. Decorative stucco plaques, featuring small swags, are positioned above the first-floor windows. A sill band runs along the front of the building. A recessed door, situated on the right-hand side, has a semi-circular head and fanlight, set within a moulded stucco case featuring "Tower of the Winds" style engaged columns, a plain frieze, and a dentilled pediment. A moulded stucco cornice tops the building, surmounted by a pediment that covers the entire front. An early 19th-century wing extends to the right. This section is two storeys high and has one sash window with a cambered head, and below it, a large wood mullioned and transomed window with glazing bars. It is distinguished by dentilled brick eaves and tiled roofing.
