Description
This is a 19th-century milepost located on Forest Road in Outwoods. It is made of hollow cast iron and has a triangular shape with a sloping top. The milepost is painted white and features raised black lettering. The inscriptions indicate distances to various locations: on the left side, it reads "NEWBOROUGH 5 ½", "MARCHINGTON 8 ½", "ABBOTS BROMLEY 9", and "UTTOXETER 12", while the right side states "BURTON 2" and the top also reads "BURTON". This milepost is significant as it remains in its original location and is part of a group of listed mileposts that mark routes in East Staffordshire, highlighting the increasing importance of road transport in the 19th century.
