Description

Marston's Brewery is a brewery built in 1875 by W. & S.T. Martin of Nottingham for Mann, Crossman & Paulin. It is constructed of red brick with blue brick and some stone dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof that is partly hidden behind a parapet. The building has three storeys, with four additional storeys on the right side, and features nine bays that are defined by pilasters. Each bay has round-headed blue brick arches with stone keyblocks, and a tier of three round-headed cast iron casements, some of which have been replaced, beneath the arches. The windows have radiating glazing bars and are set under round blue brick arches with stone keyblocks. The brewery also has impost bands, a moulded brick eaves course, a stone cornice, and a plaque displaying the name of the original brewers.

Above the fourth storey on the right side, there is a water tank spanning three bays. The left return of the building has four bays under gables of a twin-span roof, with an arcade and fenestration similar to the main facade. A boiler house at the rear is largely obscured by 20th-century plant. There is a tall octagonal brick chimney, which was originally one of two, featuring a moulded stone band and a brick cap at the upper stage, along with iron straps. Marston's Brewery was originally known as the Albion Brewery.

The Central Brewing Tower at Marston's Brewery is listed separately.
