Description

This is a milepost located in Wootton, dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular section with a chamfered top. The top face is inscribed with "WOOTTON." The left-hand face displays distances to various locations: "FROGHALL 5½ / CHEADLE 7¼ / HANLEY 15 / STOKE 16 / NEWCASTLE 17½." The right-hand face indicates the distance to ASHBOURNE as 6¼ miles.
