Description
Milepost near Eland Brook, dating from the 19th century, is a hollow cast iron triangular structure with a sloping top. It is painted white with raised black lettering and has a black painted base. The inscription on the milepost reads: on the left side, "MARCHINGTON 3 ½ SUDBURY 3 ¾ UTTOXETER 7" and on the right side, "BURTON 7". The top of the milepost states "MARCHINGTON". This milepost is well-preserved in its original location and is part of a group of similar mileposts in East Staffordshire, highlighting the significance of road transport during the 19th century. As a good example of a milepost in situ, it is worthy of listing.
