GV II Milepost. C19. Hollow cast iron triangular with sloping top. Painted white with raised lettering in black and black painted base. Inscription reads: Left: MARCHINGTON 3 ½ SUDBURY 3 ¾ UTTOXETER 7 Right: BURTON 7 Top: MARCHINGTON

SUMMARY OF IMPORTANCE: This milepost survives well in its original location and forms part of a group, many of which are listed, marking out routes in East Staffordshire. Mileposts are reminders of the growing importance of road transport of people and goods in the C19. As a good example of a milepost in situ it fully merits listing.
