Description
No. 13 Broad Street is a shop and dwelling that dates from the early to mid 17th century. It features a timber-frame construction with plaster and a plain tile gable roof that has fishscale bands. The building stands three stories tall with an attic and has a one-window range. The ground floor includes a 20th-century mullion and transom casement window, which is flanked by small lights and has chevron braced panels. Above this, there is a similar light with chevron braced and cusped quarter braced panels, while the gable has a blocked window. The building is jettied, supported by moulded bressummers on enriched consoles at the second and third floor levels, and features enriched barge boards and a pendant. The right side of the building has 20th-century lights on the first and second floors. The late 19th-century shopfront has a central glazed door that is recessed between rounded returned windows, also supported by enriched consoles, all beneath a deep overhang on cast-iron columns. A passage to the left leads to a half-glazed early 19th-century door in a plain case with a chamfered stucco architrave, set in a 19th-century brick wall. The rear gable has 20th-century render and casements, as well as French windows.
