Description
The Angel Hotel Annexe is a shop and dwelling located on Broad Street in Ludlow. It features an 18th-century front that conceals a 17th-century core and a rear range dating back to 1431-1439. The building is constructed with a combination of stucco, plaster, and 20th-century render over a timber frame, topped with a 20th-century plain tile roof and a 19th-century brick end stack.
The structure is two stories with an attic, and three stories on the right side. It has a two-window range that includes a late 19th-century canted bay with a coved underhang and sash windows. To the right, there is a 20th-century mullion and transom window with casements above, and two 20th-century box dormers. The left side features a 20th-century shopfront with a curved chamfered brace, while the far right has an early 20th-century shopfront with an angled half-glazed door. Additionally, there is a four-panel door in a beaded case with an architrave leading to a passage at the rear, all supported by a deep overhang on cast iron pillars.
Inside, the passage to the rear shows timber framing on the left and ceiling beams with stop chamfers. There is a 20th-century door to the rear left of the passage. The rear gable contains 19th and 20th-century casement windows and doors on the ground floor. The interior is reported to have a mid-15th-century roof in the rear range, featuring eight bays of mostly intact open and closed trusses with curved windbraces.
