Description
58 Broad Street is a building that serves as a restaurant and dwelling, featuring a mid-19th century front that conceals an earlier core. The exterior is finished in stucco and topped with a shallow pitched slate roof, which has a brick stack at the front and a rendered base for the end stack. The building is three storeys high and has a three-window range. The windows are margin-glazed sashes set in beaded reveals, with the central window featuring an architrave adorned with a rosette motif beneath a moulded pediment supported by fluted consoles. The side windows have shouldered moulded architraves with vermiculated keystones and stone sills resting on moulded corbels. Above, there are margin-glazed sashes with cambered heads, and the architraves rise into an ornate frieze and eaves cornice.
On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century shopfront that includes central glazed double doors and canted plate glass windows with round heads, complemented by enriched glazing shafts and a cornice supported by ornate consoles on moulded pilasters. To the left of the shopfront, there are a pair of entrances with round heads and overlights (one of which was blocked at the time of the survey), set within moulded cases and topped with a moulded cornice. The left passage features timber-framing and a finely moulded ceiling beam.
