Description
No. 20 Castle Gates is a shop built around 1900, designed in the Shrewsbury style with mock timber framing and a plain tiled roof. The building stands three storeys tall and features a single-window range. The mock framing consists of small square panels. The original shop front has curved windows, and above it is a 4-light mullioned and transomed oriel window. The bressumer of the jettied second storey is supported by moulded consoles, and this storey features a slightly projecting 4-light mullioned and transomed window on brackets. Above this, there is an enriched collar that also slightly advances, along with barge-boards that are carved with Greek motifs. The building is included for its group value.
