Description
This barn, located about 30 yards north of Hill Farmhouse, is likely from the 18th century and was extended in the early 19th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with brick dressings and has a tiled roof. The barn consists of four bays that are roughly aligned north to south. On the west elevation, there are four ventilation slits to the left of the cart entry in the second bay from the south, and to the right, there is a lean-to extension with a catslide roof. The northern bay, added in the 19th century, features brick dressings and an owl hole in the gable. Inside, the 19th-century section has a plank ridge, and the trusses over the threshing floor include triple angle struts and a tie-beam supported by curving struts from the cross-walls. This barn is part of a cohesive upland farm group that includes Hill Farmhouse and the cider house and granary located on the opposite side of the farmyard.
