Description
This barn, located about 90 yards south-west of Grange Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a pantiled roof. The barn has five bays oriented from north-west to south-east. On the south elevation, there are two rows of five vent slits symmetrically placed on either side of central ledged, two-leaved opposed doors leading to the threshing floor. Above the doors, there is a single row of square timber-framed panels. The north elevation mirrors this with a corresponding row of panels above the central doors, and each gable apex includes an owl hole. Inside, the barn has pegged king-post trusses and three purlins on each roof slope. Uniquely, each king-post supports two pairs of struts extending at different angles from corbel-like projections to the principals, which also feature struts from ties to the lowest purlins.
