Description
Llanfrother is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of squared coursed sandstone rubble and features a timber-frame that is partly rendered on the right side, topped with a concrete tile roof. The building has a rectangular plan oriented northwest to southwest and includes a cellar and two storeys.
On the north elevation, there are two windows: one is a 2-light late 19th to early 20th century casement located in the center, and the other is a similar casement on the left-hand side. Beneath each of these windows are early 19th century casements, with the left one having two lights and the right one having four lights. There are two entrances; one is positioned between the two ground floor casements and features a 17th century nailed and studded ledged door under a late 19th century gabled canopy. The second entrance, located on the right-hand side, is a six-panelled door that remains unrendered.
The south elevation includes an external stack on the right and a catslide roof over the exposed timber-framing on the left. Although the interior has not been inspected, it has been reported by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (RCHM) to contain a staircase and fireplace dating to around 1700. Attached to the northeast end of the farmhouse are the remains of a cross-wing, which has been demolished down to low walls. At the northwest end of this cross-wing's remains, there is a 2-light mullioned window that previously served the northwest end of the cellar beneath the cross-wing.
