Description

The Old Mill is a water mill that has been converted into a house. It likely dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings and has a Welsh slate roof topped with a 20th-century sandstone stack. It has a rectangular plan, with the main elevation facing south and featuring three storeys plus an attic.

The south elevation includes three segmentally headed windows with 2-light 20th-century casements. On the ground floor, there are two similar casements flanking a two-leaved 20th-century door. Each outer side of the ground floor windows has a low segmentally headed opening. The upper two floors are mostly unfenestrated on this side, except for a small square attic light to the right of centre, which is believed to have been added by the Home Guard around 1940. On the right-hand side of the upper floors, there is a cast-iron drive-pulley with its axle oriented north/south. The centre of the top storey features an eroded date plaque that is no longer legible.

Attached to the right-hand side of the mill is a domestic range that has segmentally headed windows and a doorway facing west. Inside the main range, there are remains of the water wheel, crown wheel, and pinion drive located at the north end, all of which are still in place. The main range consists of five bays and has a roof that is said to be trussed by collars supported by bolted angle struts.
