Description
Alder’s End Farmhouse is probably of late 17th-century origin, with remodelling occurring in the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings, featuring hipped slate roofs and brick stacks. The two principal stacks are centrally located and have recessed panels. The building has a staggered rectangular plan and includes a cellar and three storeys. Windows are arranged in a 1:1 pattern and are late 18th- to early 19th-century casements with three lights, with segmentally-headed tops to the ground and first floors. Stone quoins are present, and the left-of-centre entrance is within a glazed, 20th-century lean-to porch. The interior includes a late 17th-century, open-well dog-leg staircase with squat turned balusters, moulded strings, and square newels with pendants.
