Description
Wren's Nest is a cottage that possibly dates back to the 16th century, with alterations and extensions from the 18th century and early 20th century. It features a sandstone rubble plinth and a timber-frame structure topped with a slate roof. There is a stone end stack with a brick shaft on the left-hand gable. The cottage is one bay wide, aligned east to west, and consists of one storey with an attic.
It has one window, which is a 2-light early 20th-century casement, located on the ground floor, and another in a flat-roofed dormer. The rear entry is also present. The timber frame is irregular, showcasing a large curved tension brace on both the north and south elevations that supports the north-west and south-west corner posts. Each gable end is formed by a pair of cruck blades.
There are early 20th-century lean-to extensions on both the left and right sides, with the right extension featuring a brick stack and a 2-light casement window on the north front. Additionally, there is a third early 20th-century lean-to extension at the rear that contains the entry.
