Description
No. 6 Castle Street is a house that was originally two cottages, featuring an early 19th-century front and a 17th-century core. The building is constructed of brick, with timber-frame and plaster elements, and has a Welsh slate roof, with plain tiles at the rear. It has two storeys and a four-window range, which includes a pair of 19th-century, three-light metal casements flanked by single casements, all set beneath segmental arches. The entrance is located to the right and features a 20th-century panelled door. To the right of the entrance is a single casement, while to the left are two three-light casements and a 20th-century three-light casement that has replaced a former door, all under segmental arches.
On the left side of the building, there is 17th-century box-framing and render, with a two-light casement. The rear of the property displays timber-frame and brick construction, with two-light casements on the first floor. Inside, there is a straight flight staircase with some 19th-century moulded square balusters leading to an older newel. The first floor features a 17th-century stone stack with a dressed stone fireplace and oak lintel, along with curved braces, wind braces, and much exposed close studding. The ground floor showcases exposed timber-frame, wattle-and-daub panels, and an exposed stack.
